High Blood Pressure Write for Us

High Blood Pressure Write for Us: High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a common condition that disturbs the body’s arteries. With high blood pressure, the pressure of blood against the artery walls is constantly excessive, requiring the heart to work harder to pump blood. Blood pressure is restrained in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). High blood pressure is typically defined as a blood pressure examination of 130/80 mmHg or higher. The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association divide blood pressure into four categories. Ideal blood pressure is considered normal. Normal blood pressure: blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg.

High blood pressure: The upper limit is between 120 and 129 mmHg, and the lower limit is below, but not above, 80 mmHg.

Stage 1 hypertension: The upper limit is between 130 and 139 mmHg, and the lower limit is between 80 and 89 mmHg. Stage 2 hypertension: The upper limit is 140 mmHg or higher, and the lower limit is 90 mmHg or higher.

A blood pressure above 180/120 mmHg is considered a hypertensive crisis or emergency. You should seek emergency medical attention if your blood pressure reaches this level.

If left untreated, high blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems. It is essential to check your blood pressure at least every two years, starting at age 18. Some people need more frequent checks.

A healthy lifestyle, such as not smoking, exercising, and eating a nutritious diet, can help prevent and treat high blood pressure. Some people need medication to treat high blood pressure.

    Symptoms

Most people with high blood pressure don’t experience symptoms, even when their levels reach dangerously high levels. Hypertension can persist for years without symptoms.

Some people with high blood pressure may experience:

    • Headaches
    • Shortness of breath
    • Nosebleeds

However, these symptoms are not specific. They usually only appear when hypertension reaches a severe or life-threatening stage.

    Causes

Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood pumped by the heart and the intensity of blood flow through the arteries. The more blood the heart pumps and the narrower the arteries, the higher the blood pressure.

There are two main types of high blood pressure.

Primary hypertension, also called essential hypertension.

Most adults don’t have a single cause of high blood pressure, which is called primary hypertension or essential hypertension. It usually develops gradually over many years. The buildup of plaque in the arteries, called atherosclerosis, increases the risk of developing high blood pressure.

    Secondary hypertension

An underlying medical condition causes this type of high blood pressure. It usually appears suddenly and causes higher blood pressure than primary hypertension. Conditions and medications that can cause secondary hypertension include:

    • Tumours of the adrenal glands
    • Congenital blood vessel problems, also called congenital heart defects
    • Cough and cold medications, some pain relievers, birth control pills, and other prescription medications
    • Illegal drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines
    • Kidney disease
    • Obstructive sleep apnea
    • Thyroid disease
    • Sometimes, high blood pressure can be detected with a simple medical exam. This is called “white coat hypertension.”
